CBS News seeks reporter/host for eco beat.
Required: Funny, irreverent and hip, oozing enthusiasm and creative energy.
Not required: Environmental knowledge.
Apparently they think we'd rather get our environmental news from Jenny McCarthy than from Rachel Carson.
Yes, top green sites like Grist and Treehugger succeed by combining wit and wisdom. But it's the hard news, expert analysis and good advice that keep us coming back. The humor is just the chocolate coating that makes it go down easier. That CBS thinks they can copy the style without the substance is insulting.

It's like a parody or something:
"You are wicked smart, funny, irreverent and hip, oozing enthusiasm and creative energy."
Gack!!!
In researching my own blog post on this item (which is how I found you, BTW), I saw that the flat-earthers/global warming deniers are up in arms about this as well. I guess it fits in with their "liberal media" meme (global warming is a liberal conspiracy, the media is liberal, therefore a duffus enviro reporter has all the qualifications needed to cover this beat).
So I guess this proves that the one area on which right and left agree is our contempt for the mainstream media.
Which if you think about it is hilarious.
